Notice the date. Jan 2, 1992. Only a month after I sent it.

At age 12, I remember being a little sad but the letter was so encouraging that I never stopped. This was one of many milestones in my life that I can look back on and say “That is one of the reasons that I wanted to become an artist”. 

For the next 6 years, I basically spent all of my free time drawing. I had friends and I did normal teenager things, but everywhere I went I carried my sketchbook and I drew constantly. I would “go to bed” and stay up as long as possible to get those last few details drawn.

In 1997, I went to art school on a full ride art scholarship that was offered by the school.

In September of 1999 I graduated and within 6 months I got my first game job as a texture artist at Treyarch LLC. This was long before their Call of Duty days, but I worked on Triple Play Baseball and the original Spiderman Movie Game.

After deciding I wanted to move back to Seattle, I got a job at Monolith Productions in 2003 and worked on many titles there including an expansion for the NOLF series, FEAR and FEAR 2, as a 2D/3D environment artist.

Now I split my time by working at a casual game developer during the day and a freelance heavy metal album cover artist during the evening.
 

Even though my Wii collects dust, you’ll always hold a special place in my heart, Nintendo! 

Don’t ever stop pursuing your interests. It’s your life! You absolutely can get paid to do what you love. I’m living proof!
